Claire Walters – Pontycymer Ward

I am pleased to announce that I will be standing as an Independent candidate for the Pontycymer Ward in the local elections for the Bridgend County Borough Council taking place in May. I acknowledge the fantastic support I have received from local residents, friends and family as well as the Change for Bridgend Group.
I have lived in the Bridgend area all my life, attended school in Bryntirion and have been resident in the Garw Valley for the last 15 years. My vocation has been in care work and I have attained qualifications to help me in my career of more than 25 years.
I have decided to stand for election because I feel that for far too long the residents of Pontycymer have not had a democratic voice as the current councillor was appointed to Council uncontested. I believe there is a level of complacency within the Council and, as a result the electorate are both taken for granted and ignored when it comes to airing their wishes and views. I want to change that. I want to build a community that has a firm commitment to itself as a core value. I want to help to implement change and improvement and let the outside world see us for what we are – an inspired and inspiring community who work together for the betterment of our valley.
I want to be seen to make a positive difference to the lives of Pontycymer residents and I am ready to stand up for my community and to be judged by them on the results I achieve.
